We talk about feeling drained around other people, "sucked in" to their negativity, "absorbed" in a conversation with them, "overpowered" by their presence. Many of us can feel the energy of a room when we walk into it, others of us with deceased relatives or particular 'spirit guides' can feel the presence of those we admire and love.
Yet funnily enough, when some of the more skeptical varieties among us hear of "auras" and "feeling energy fields", we shut our minds off instantly and scoff at the fluffy, new-age thought.
But scientists around the world are continuing to discover evidence that supports the notion that we do, in fact, have very unique (yet interconnected), very real energy fields. And these affect everything from our thoughts, emotions, to the way we interact with other people and make decisions.
I've recently become very interested in this topic, especially after watching this small documentary on Mind-Matter Interaction research from Princeton University. So in this article, we'll explore some of the most fascinating discoveries about the human aura.
14 Energy Types
Energy and vibrations affect the way in which water flows, and tiny particles of sand are arranged, so why can't they affect the way in which we interact with the world, and other people?
Author Barbara Ann Brennan had similar thoughts when she published her book "Light Emerging" in 1993. This book included the illustration and description of "Energy Types" and "defense systems" which can be seen in the pictures below.
You may be thinking "so what?" Well, turns out that this may not be so far-fetched after all. In fact, researchers from UCLA, Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Laboratory, St. Petersburg University and Bielefield University have all stumbled upon evidence that we do in fact emit - and receive - sources of energy.
4 Nerdy, But Intriguing Findings
Measuring bio-energy fields - or auras - is not new. In fact, all through history researchers have recorded their findings on the matter.
In 1939, Russia for example, Kirlian photography was developed in order to research the changes in human energy fields during emotional states. In 1940, Germany, the first Radionics Recorder was built to measure the radiations emitted by living tissue. And in 1930-1960, Dr. Harold Saxon Burr discovered electromagnetic fields in living tissue, which changed and fluctuated through time.
Until this day, researchers and scientists are discovering more and more about our mysterious energy fields. You'll find these unusual and captivating findings below.
Dr. Valerie Hunt
A University Professor and researcher for over 40 years, Hunt's current work at UCLA has unearthed new information about the human energy field. Basically, Dr. Hunt was able to measure changes in the human energy field in such a way that subsequent negative changes were recorded in the physical and mental states of the subjects.
And not only that, Dr. Hunt also studied and recorded how to change the human aura field, with a book published in 1996 by the name of "Infinite Mind: Science and the Human Vibrations of Consciousness".
Dr. Olaf Kruse
Members of Dr. Kruse's research team at the Bielefield University, have also recently discovered that plants can actually draw alternative sources of energy from other plants. OK ... but what relevance does this actually have to do with human beings?
Well, as psychologist Dr. Olivia Bader-Lee commented on the research: "The human organism is much like a plant, it draws needed energy to feed emotional states ... When studies become more advanced in the coming years, we will eventually see this translated to human beings as well."
Dr. Konstantin Konotkov
A professor of physics at St. Petersburg University, Dr. Konotkov has been dedicating his time to studying the human energy field. This is done through using a method called Bioelectrophotography which works on the premise that the human body and mind are continuously emitting energy.
In Dr. Konotkov's own words: "We are developing the idea that our consciousness is a part of the material world and that with our consciousness we can directly influence our world."
The Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) Lab
Scientists and researchers from the PEAR laboratory have also been testing the effects of the energy of the mind on the external world. Using mechanisms called Random Event Generators (REGs), the scientists tested the effects of humanintention on the machine that replicated a random flip of a coin.
The scientists noticed that when the machine was left by itself, an expected 50/50 chance of heads or tails was consistently being produced. However, when human subjects were introduced harboring the intention of receiving either heads or tails, the 50/50 chance was slightly changed, so that either heads or tails was more often produced.
The implications of these results on the energy, impact and influence of the human mind on the exterior world are fascinating.

The study of the human energy field - or aura - is an intriguing field with so many implications.
Is it possible that we can influence nature, people, and the environment around us with the energy frequencies that we emit from our bodies and minds? Is the old adage mind over matter really true in a very literal sense? Is it possible to clear and cleanse our energies, and thus improve our quality of life? We'll continue to see as research progresses.
In the meantime, please feel free to share your insights below!
